Millions of people around the world rely on underground transportation, water, sewage and gas distribution grids or systems. These systems are like the hidden lifelines of modern cities. These lifelines are dependent on the rocks in the land. We build massive underground systems assuming that the rocks can bear the pain of hundreds of giant surgical instruments cut into their epidermis. Without the support of the rocks underground, civilisation would descend into abysmal chaos.
