The Maasai
The Maasai People are internationally the most well-known indigenous population of Africa. These semi-nomadic warriors inhabit the African Great Lakes region, living outside parks and conservation areas. Like countless tourists before me, I was welcomed by the Maasai to one of their villages to experience their society and its culture, traditions, and lifestyle. While the village itself was rudimentary and the Maasai traditions were fascinating, there were undoubtedly hints of modernisation in their village like any other indigenous community that opens or is forced to open to the modern world.
